Vintage Mid Century School Changing bench.
Shoe pigeon holes and coat hooks.
When I first set eyes on this changing bench I was instantly transported back to school circa 1975. I even remember squabbling with friends over the colour hooks we had been allocated. This bench came with little square hardboard plaques that had been personalised with a different painted images for each child (we have removed these but they will be made available to the purchaser if required).
This bench is heavy and solidly made probably in the late 50's/early 60's to withstand the rigours of school life. The frame is solid hardwood, Iroko or Teak we think, there are three wirework panels which could be handy for hanging notes/keys etc. Below the solid seat are six wirework pigeonholes for shoe storage.
The bench is designed to be freestanding but has no bench on the reverse side, just a row of simply wooden pegs (further images to follow but they would be ideal for small pairs of wellies). We can see it working really well as a merchandising unit, in a shop displaying childrenswear as it offers so much storage. .
