Hadrill Horstmann "Roller" Counterpoised Desklamp.

Unlike desklamps made by Anglepoise, the Hadrill Horstmann is a very clever design using a counter balance rather than springs to keep the shade in place upon repositioning.
Hadrill & Horstmann made 2 designs of counterpoised task lamps. One had a fixed weight which was fixed at the end of the lower arm sections with a "U" shape in the mounting yoke to allow the weight to move inboard as the shade moved backwards. These "roller" lamps are more elegant and certainly a much more elegant solution, using two sets of lower arms which are "cammed' to the counterweight - ie; fixed at eccentric points on the edge/middle of the counterweight such that as the head moves, the weight rotates accordingly placing just the right amount of counterbalancing mass in the right place at all times. The placement-dependent rotation of the counterweight means that it automatically compensates accurately for both up and down movement of the shade as well as fore & aft movement (and any combination of movement in either of these planes). Clever Maths; Brilliant Engineering.
The shade articulates up & down and left & right allowing full and free positioning of the lamp to illuminate the task in hand. The lamp features a desk edge clamp rather than a weighted table base.
The lamp has been re-wired with black cloth covered, earthed flex which is fed through two guides mid way between the arms and behind the counterbalance roller to prevent snagging.
The lamp is fitted with a new "golfball" sized LED bulb. These turn on without any warm-up period, are very long lasting, have a pleasant colour temparature and only use around 15% of the electricity of a convention bulb.
A rare and lovely lamp now back in fine fettle once again. It will be PAT tested prior to dispatch.
