Polished steel R.E.A.L floodlight, mounted on a Terry's aluminium tripod.
We have teamed a polished steel and aluminium floodlight from R.E.A.L (Rowlands Electrical Accessories Ltd) with a contemporaneous alloy tripod 'Terry's Made in England' is just visible engraved on one of the legs (we believe this is Herbert Terry & Sons of Anglepoise fame). They both date back to circa 1950's, the khaki green paint and lightness of the tripod suggest military usage.
The floodlight is beautifully made with curved, fluted ventilation funnels which prevent the lamp enclosure overheating whilst keeping moisture out. The bulb is protected by its original convex glass lens, illumination is enhanced by the mirror polished reflector. The lamp holder (regular ES fitting) is held on a threaded brass conduit allowing the bulb position to be adjusted. We have re-wired the lamp with black cloth covered cable, supplied P.A.T tested with with an inline switch and black vintage style plug.
The lamp pivots on it's bracket, it can also rotate on the tripod. This is the first original all metal tripod we have restored, alloy plates are riveted together to form the hollow legs which can extend from just under 100cm up to 150cm. Quality bronze fittings with cast alloy knurled tensioning knobs clamp the leg sections in position. Another clever feature are the twin spikes at the feet which allow stability to be achieved when the legs are splayed at different angles. We have left most of the tripod in it's original green paint whilst highlight polishing the front sections, fittings and cast alloy crown.
