Grinding freshly roast coffee beans for each brew really does make a difference to the taste. Using a hand grinder soon becomes part of the coffee making ritual, you slow down inhale the aroma and appreciate the end result all the more.

When our electric burr grinder broke, rather than replacing like for like we began the search for a hand operated grinder that would not let us down. We found that renowned West Bromich manufacturers Kenrick & Sons, (who we had long admired for the quality of their hardware) also produced kitchen implements including a range of coffee grinders.

Having acquired several models,'0','1','2' & '3 (the number denotes the size & capacity) we were intrigued to find out if their value would be more than decorative. Our restoration process involved carefully dismantling into their component parts, removing flaking paint and rust inside and out.Checking the sharpness of the burr's, burnishing and sealing the cast iron and polished the brass before re-assembling ready for testing.

We are happy to report that in our opinion the grinders reliable performance equals it's good looks, working best when screwed to a counter (or hefty wooden chopping board). Beans are simply fed into the hopper at the top, the tactile wooden handle is then turned and the freshly ground coffee is collected in the little drawer at the bottom. The fairly coarse but even grind produced is great for cafetieres and percolators alike.
