Antique Hutton & Co.Bicycle Stand.

Manufactured in Warminster, Wilts circa 1890's.

An unusual piece of metalwork, decorative in its own right forged from a combination of wrought & cast iron. Manufactured by Hutton & Co. just a couple of miles down the road from us, in Warminster, Wilts the makers name and Woods' patent number clearly embossed on the base. We believe this dates the stand to the the 1890's, the early years of the safety bicycle; sucessor to the High Wheel bicycle (Penny Farthing).

The stand features a splayed base terminating in intricately scrolled feet. This provides a stable anchor for the two piece centre pole, cast with a decorative riven surface resembling bark. A simple screw mechanism allows you to adjust the height of the top tube holder which consists of a simple double hook to hold your bicyle frame.

Designed for practical use during the formative years of cycling this stand has now been sympathetically restored, burnished and sealed ready for bicycle display or maintainance purposes.

A lovely acccessory for the discerning cyclist at this year's Eroica Britannia or London Tweed Run, or simply to keep and maintain your vintage velo'

Chapeau!
