1930's vintage shop display stands.
Elegant proportions, with adjustable height mechanism.

Acquiring items in a'distressed' condition is a gamble that sometimes pays off. These vintage display stands were sold as seen (see bottom picture), once adjustable their mechanisms had long since ceased to operate.
Armed with hope and WD40 we painstakingly removed decades of rust to reveal an intriguing cam mechanism and a Patent number which led us to the drawing below. Filed with the British patent office in December 1931 by Griffiths & Co of Sparkbrook, Birmingham for 'a clamp for and adjustable display stand of the type comprising of three or more stems telescopically slidable..'
We can find no more information about Griffiths and Co, however these stands, meticulously constructed from steel and brass with some bronze components are a testement to their metalworking skills.
Each stand adjusts via the telescopic legs and can be 'locked' at the desired height. Two of the steel tops are slightly larger than the other four.We can see them forming a stunning display in a retail environment, perhaps for jewellery or even cakes!
