1940'S UTILITY FLOTON SINGLE AVIATOR BEDS CONSTRUCTED FROM SURPLUS ALUMINIUM WITH STEEL SPRINGS |
||||
A pair of 'FLOTON' beds with elegant ART DECO inspired lines fabricated from pressed and riveted aluminium with a fully sprung base. Manufactured with ease of delivery in mind, as well as being relatively lightweight the curvaceous feet and headboard are removable, fixed in place with chunky wing nuts which negated the need for tools. These beds are impressed with the FLOTON logo and also feature the CC41 Utility logo, a British Board of Trade requirement that appeared on footwear, utility furniture, textiles and utility clothing for just over ten years from 1941. The log (designed by Reginald Shipp) indicated that the item was a "Controlled Commodity" which had been manufactured to conform to the government's stringent austerity regulations. It is likely these were made from surplus aircraft aluminium at the end of the war, the flaky cream paint has been carefully removed leaving logos intact and the beds have been given a satin polished finish. We are offering these as a pair, they are a standard single bed size or can be bolted together to form a luxurious super-king. £ 425 each or £800 for the pair RESERVED
