MID CENTURY CAITHNESS GLASS LAMP BASES DESIGNED BY DOMHNALL O'BROIN IN HEATHER, LOCH, PEAT & MOSS |
||||
A collection of four hand made lamp bases deisgned by Domhnall O'Broin for Caithness Glass in the mid 1960's. O'Broin was born in Waterford, Eire and received his early training at Waterford Crystal, later perfecting his craft at Orrefors, Sweden where he was influenced by the simplicity of scandinavian design. He received further training at Edinburgh College of Art where he met the founder of Caithness Glass, Robin Sinclair, and was invited to become their only designer and later mananging director. His ambition was to make Caithness Glass as good as Orrefors, producing scandinavian inspired designs in shades inspired by the landscape of Scotland with names like Heather, Loch, Peat & Moss (illustrated above left to right). We have acquired one of each colour lamp base, minus the original plastic lamp holders which can be displayed 'as is' or rewired with quality brass fittings and purchasers choice of fabric covered coloured cable (exiting at the brass fitting) P.A.T tested prior to dispatch.
