A COLLECTION OF ANTIQUE SADDLE TREES SCULPTURAL EQUESTRIAN FORMS IN STEEL & WOOD |
||||
A collection of seven antique English Saddle Tree's in wood & steel. These sculptural forms provide the framework within the leather saddle following the curves of the horse & rider crucial in providing a comfortable experience for both. Each bespoke saddle would have been carefully made and fitted using a 'tree' specific to the horse (similar to the way individual human clients had bespoke shoe lasts). Three trees bear their makers paper labels but sadly I can find no information on either (Samuel Hunter & CO and Cowley Russell). We believe they date from the early 1900's. Six of these trees are of a similar size, whilst one is slightly smaller & lighter. Three have metal styrup guides in place, four do not. All are elegant, sculptural forms with a wealth of patina which we have left as is but preserved with a little museum wax to halt further deterioration. £ 65.00 each or £400 for the set of seven
