Original Jielde 'LAK' lamps.
Lesser known 60's model from famed french designer Jean-Louis Domecq.
We do not often restore continental lighting, prefering to buy closer to home. However we were recently offered some of the contents of a local dental laboratory and found amongst them this pair of Jielde lamps.
We have identified them as the lesser known 'LAK' model which followed the classic 'LOFT' lamp from manufacturers Jielde. Designed by Jean-Louis Domecq in the 60's, the LAK has almost 'art deco' angular lines, with a more flattened pill box shade than its famous more rounded predecessor. The arm sections are hexagonal, whilst each joint is capped by a shallow conical cover concealing the complex conductive joint assembly within.
The two lamps we have are similar in size but one articulates on a horizontal plane from its base, making it best for wall mounting. The other, slightly longer lamp pivots and moves vertically and could be used for bench or wall mounting.
Both lamps are constructed from alloy joints with steel arms, shades and shade rings. Each has a neat, functioning brass switch to the side of the neck joint. These original models had no riveted makers plaque as it was replaced with a sticker, now long gone. We have stripped them back to bare metal and polished the aluminium parts to a bright finish. The steel shades show a little characterful pitting.
