1930's Adjustable burnished iron side table..
Versatile table, easel, stand, desk in burnished iron and timber.
These handy adjustable tables were designed mainly for use by invalids or the bedridden. We have sold a couple of earlier, more decorative models over the last couple of years, this design is simple with a more industrial aesthetic. Utilitarian in construction the tubular cast iron manages to be sturdy and yet elegant at the same time. Four feet give stability, whilst the rear two are mounted on little wooden castors for ease of movement. The cast iron frame has been lightly burnished to remove flaking paint, traces of black paint and rust patina remain and it has been sealed to preserve the finish. A wheel reminiscent of a stop-cock allows the height to be adjusted and is then tightened to fix the position. The table surface is overpainted pine and can be tilted to the ideal angle for the activity at hand by pushing down the sprung ratchet mechanism underneath. The table surface can also pivot around the upright allowing it to be positioned over a bath or bed.
